Letter Back Home
Do you ever get the feeling as if you want to go home? Most American’s will never get that feeling-or I should say that they would never truly understand that feeling fully. I know that I am one of the few American’s who do feel that way, other than American’s who are serving abroad in the military. The problem is that I never felt at home in America, even though I am an American, especially now. It is not because I do not fit-in or that I have burned my bridges in America. It is just that I do not feel I belong there. Lately I have been trying to make a home for myself in the United Kingdom but it has been an uphill struggle, but it is one that I feel is worth it. It is where my interests lie. In this new found frontier of convenience that has spawned with the formation of the European Union. It is very interesting to me to be here in London in the now 2006. The United States has changed and it is in its last death throws of kicking and screaming into the night. Never fear hearty Americans your way of life and empire will not go quietly into the night or disappear. All it has to do is remember. It has to remember the principles that it was founded on and it will be born again unto itself anew.
Europe or the United Kingdom is just learning from America’s mistakes, so you can teach an old dog new tricks. In addition, the EU and the UK have experienced things that the US did not learn from. Of course, we are all doomed to forget the entire lesson so events seem to repeat themselves sometimes. Everything moves in a cycle. This new cycle starts with the death of US politics dominating the globe and the birth of EU politics doing nothing. The world is well on its way to self-democratization and the EU does not need to get involved. There is no need to foster beliefs or ideologies to promote what you or what the US believes is right or right-wing.
Local thugs in a neighborhood make the property values drop so the rich can purchase the property at a reduced price and develop it. Local thugs can also move into a country and the price of oil goes up. More profits for oil companies. Then the local thugs are killed or become a part of the penal system and the rich get richer. Who is at fault or at the heart of it all? No one, but the money is going into someone’s pocket. Is it yours?
The America that I grew to love is a lie perpetuated by the Regan Administration and Rambo. The true America resides in the founding fathers that are as dead as their idea for a new country, or are they? Nevertheless, one-day America will not rise again to be the worlds super power. It will pick itself up and become an equal part of the rest of the planet neither exporting nor importing a total world influence. The cycle hasn’t come full circle yet; it is only half way done.
Maybe that is why I feel more at home here than over in America? The lack of a drive or a burned out drive for empire has been exhausted from the UK. On the other hand, maybe it is just my observations that as much as people in the UK seem to do they really don’t do much of anything, as does the government. I like that, they have also see how colonialism and maintaining a world empire have destroyed their country and they seem content to abandon desires of world conquest. American didn’t learn from the mistakes of the British Empire from the Suez Canal to colonialism. The American elite have learned one lesson though, expand your markets and to hell with the economy in the states it will inevitably rebound and while it is slumping the rich who run the country will always be rich. So they don’t care about the rest of the populous, they just want to broaden the gap between the rich and the poor.
Over in London I feel exactly the same except it is just a little bit better. That all there really is realistically, nothing is perfect, it just gets a little better. The UK has potential and it is located in a very out-of-the-way strategic place. The people in this country face the same problems that we face back home, but their approach is different and I like that. Where will I end up?
Then again, the cycle isn’t over yet and we would be short-sighted to think that it would happen in our lifetime, so don’t expect anything to change anytime soon. Have patience and the revolution will never come, so don’t bother waiting for it. Either start it yourself or just be the best human you can possibly be, meaning be good to others and yourself, recycle, purchase good responsibly (knowing if slave labor produced it), and for god sakes smile a little more. Your life will be over before you know it!
